First-Time Passport Application: What You Need to Know

DOB: Follow the birth certificate and QR code requirements for documents after 1989 and from 2002.
Application: Match your name, address, and DOB.
Documents: Carry original documents and photocopies with a QR code. Laminated documents can sometimes be rejected.
Appointment: A total of three appointments are available.
Time: Be at the passport office 15 minutes before your appointment.
Application Type: Minor and lost or damaged passport applications are not processed under Tatkaal.
Post Office: The listed categories will not be accepted at POPSKs.

Passport Registration and Application Process

Applying for an Indian passport starts with online registration on the Passport Seva Portal. After registration, the applicant completes the application, pays the applicable fee, schedules an appointment, and visits a passport centre for processing.

Register on the Passport Seva Portal: Visit the official Passport Seva Portal and select the registration option. Create your account and select the appropriate Regional Passport Office (RPO).

Log In to Your Account: After registration, log in using your registered credentials. Open the passport application section to begin the application.

Select the Required Service: Choose “Apply for Fresh Passport/Re-issue of Passport.”

Fresh Passport: generally for a first-time passport applicant.
Re-issue: for an existing or previous passport where re-issue is applicable.

Complete the Application Form: Enter the requested information carefully, including personal details, date and place of birth, current address, family details, and other applicable information.

Submit the Application: Review the completed form and submit it online. Keep your Application Reference Number (ARN) and other application details for future reference.
