Procedure for Applying for a New Passport

Step 1: Register on Passport Seva: Create an account on the official Passport Seva Online Portal and complete the registration process. After confirming the registered email address, log in with the account credentials.

Step 2: Select the Passport Service: From the account dashboard, select “Apply for Fresh Passport/Re-issue of Passport.” For a fresh ordinary passport, the applicant should use the Fresh Passport category when they have not previously held the applicable ordinary passport.

Step 3: Complete the Fresh Passport Form: The online application contains several sections. Passport Seva lists the fresh application stages as:

Step 4: Submit the Application: After checking the information, submit the completed application. An Application Reference Number (ARN) is generated, and applicants can save their application information for future reference.

Step 5: Pay the Applicable Fee: Use the Passport Seva payment and appointment facility to pay the applicable passport service fee. Passport Seva currently states that passport application fees were revised with effect from 1 July 2026, so applicants should check the current fee before making payment.

Step 6: Book an Appointment: After payment, select an available appointment at a PSK or POPSK. The system displays the available appointment date for the selected centre. After successful payment and booking, appointment details are displayed, and an SMS is sent to the registered mobile number.

Step 7: Visit the PSK or POPSK: Attend the appointment with the required original documents and photocopies. Applicant presence is required for the applicable processing, including photograph and biometric procedures.

Step 8: Complete Verification: The application is processed at the passport service centre. Depending on the applicant and application, police verification may also be conducted. The police verification address is based on the residential address provided in the application.

Step 9: Passport Processing and Dispatch: After the required processing and verification stages are completed, the passport may be issued, printed, and dispatched. The Passport Office handles back-end functions including printing, lamination and dispatch of passports.
