Passport Status Check by File Number: Complete Guide

You can check your Indian passport application status online using the File Number and the applicant’s Date of Birth through the official Passport Seva Portal. The official Passport Seva instructions confirm that the File Number is a 15-character alphanumeric number printed on the acknowledgement letter issued after application submission.

Step 1: Open the Official Passport Seva Website: Visit the official Passport Seva Portal operated by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India.

Step 2: Select “Track Application Status”: Open the application-status tracking service. The official tracking page asks you to select the application type and enter the File Number and Date of Birth.

Step 3: Select the Application Type: Select the applicable service, such as Passport/PCC/IC/GEP, as shown on the Passport Seva tracking page.

Step 4: Enter the File Number: Enter your 15-character alphanumeric File Number exactly as printed on your acknowledgement letter.

The File Number is different from the Application Reference Number (ARN). Passport Seva specifically identifies the File Number as the number printed on the acknowledgement letter issued at the PSK after submission of the application.

Step 5: Enter Your Date of Birth: Enter the applicant’s Date of Birth in the format requested by the status-tracking page.

Step 6: Click “Track”: After entering the required details, click Track. The portal will display the latest available status of your application.
