Passport Application Process for Senior Citizens

Senior citizens can apply for an Indian passport through the same Passport Seva system used by other adult applicants, but there are a few important points to consider. These include the applicable age-based fee rebate, document preparation, existing passport details, appointment arrangements, and the possibility of needing assistance with the online application.

  1. Register on the Passport Seva Portal: The application begins online. The general process is:
  1. Visit the official Passport Seva Portal.
  2. Select Register.
  3. Create an account.
  4. Confirm the registered email address.
  5. Log in.
  6. Open the Services section.
  7. Select Apply for Fresh Passport/Re-issue of Passport.

2. Select the Regional Passport Office: The applicant selects the Regional Passport Office (RPO) based on the applicable current residence. The selected RPO determines the PSK or POPSK options displayed during appointment scheduling.

3. Prepare the Required Documents: The documents required depend on whether the application is fresh, a re-issue, or a special case.

4. Complete the Online Application Carefully: The application includes different sections depending on the selected service.

5. Check Name and Date of Birth Carefully: Senior citizens may have older documents containing different spellings or formats.

6. Check the Address Information: Address information is important because it can be relevant to police verification.

7. Passport Fee for Senior Citizens: The current Passport Seva fee table provides a 10% rebate on the basic passport fee for senior citizens above 60 years of age for fresh passport applications.

8. Pay the Passport Fee Online: Payment is required before appointment booking at PSKs and POPSKs.

9. Schedule the Passport Appointment: After payment, the applicant can use the Pay and Schedule Appointment facility.

10. Plan the Appointment Day: Senior citizens may find the appointment easier if they prepare everything the day before.

Senior Citizen Passport Process in Simple Steps:

Check Service → Register/Login → Select RPO → Complete Application → Prepare Documents → Review Details → Submit → Pay Fee → Schedule Appointment → Visit PSK/POPSK → Document Verification → Police Verification if Required → Passport Processing → Dispatch → Delivery
