Passport Types of India

 

You can apply for passport types in a Passport Office in India. Normal passport application types are Regular Passport, Diplomatic Passport, and Official Passport. These three types of passports are applicable to Indian citizens.

  1. Regular Passport: This is the most common type of passport issued in India. It is valid for 10 years for adults and 5 years for minors. It is issued to Indian citizens who are traveling abroad for leisure, business, or to visit family and friends.

  2. Diplomatic Passport: This type of passport is issued to diplomats, government officials, and their families who are traveling abroad on official business. It is valid for an unlimited period of time. Diplomatic passport holders are entitled to special privileges and immunities while traveling abroad.

  3. Official Passport: This type of passport is issued to government officials and employees who are traveling abroad on official business. It is also valid for an unlimited period of time.

  4. Emergency Certificate (EC): This type of document is issued to Indian citizens who are abroad and need to return to India urgently, but do not have a valid passport. It is issued for a single journey and is valid for a maximum period of one year.

  5. Police Clearance Certificate (PCC): This document is issued to Indian citizens who are abroad and need to prove their good conduct. It is issued by the Indian police and is required for various purposes such as obtaining a visa, emigrating, or adopting a child.

  6. Person of Indian Origin (PIO) Card: This card is issued to foreign citizens of Indian origin who are traveling to India. It is valid for 15 years and allows the holder to enjoy the same privileges and exemptions as a regular Indian passport holder.

  7. Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) Card: This card is issued to foreign citizens of Indian origin who are living abroad permanently. It is valid for an unlimited period and allows the holder to enjoy the same privileges and exemptions as a regular Indian passport holder.
