Close Previous File Number or Passport Application

 

“Closing a Previous File Number” means you are formally asking the passport authorities to cancel or terminate an old, pending application so that you can submit a fresh application. Need to close a Previous Application as follows.

How to Close a Previous Application / File Number

There are two primary ways to do this. Method 1 is the most common and recommended first step.

Method 1: Through the Passport Seva Website (Online)

  1. Log in, go to the Passport Seva website.
  2. Navigate to the Option, “Close Current Application and Apply Fresh”.
  3. Select the Application
  4. Choose the Reason: Select a reason for closing the application.
  5. Confirm the Closure of your action.
  6. Wait for the Lockout Period for 3 days
  7. Apply Fresh after the lockout period is over

 

Method 2: By Visiting the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) / RPO

  1. Log in, go to the Passport Seva website.
  2. Schedule an Appointment at the Regional Passport Office
  3. Prepare a write a simple application letter addressed to the “Passport Officer.”
  4. Gather Supporting Documents: Pan Card, Aadhar Card, and Birth Certificate.
  5. Visit the RPO to submit the written request and documents

Step 1: Visit the Official Website. www.passportindia.gov.in
Step 2: Log in to the Passport Seva Portal with your registered credentials
Step 3: Click “Schedule Appointment”
Step 4: View Your RPO name and date
Step 5: Finally, book your appointment and go to RPO with original documents.
