Passport Office, Surat started functioning on 16.08.2003 under Shri Yashwant Sinha. The head office is located at Umra, Surat. It covers 4 passport office districts of Gujarat, viz Dang, Narmada, Navsari, Surat City, Surat Rural, Tapi (Vyara), and Valsad.

In Gujarat, there are three types of passport offices. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) maintains them. The office types are:

  1. Regional Passport Office (RPO):  This is the Regional Head Office of Surat  that handles final approvals and printing.
  2. Passport Seva Kendra (PSK): This centre processes documents and biometric verification. (e.g., Surat  PSK)
  3. Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK): In small towns, the application process in post office.

Passport Application: Important Information for Students Before Applying

  • DOB: After 1989, a birth certificate is compulsory for passport application, while birth documents from 2002 require a QR code.

  • Application: Check all documents for matching name, address, and DOB before applying.

  • Documents: Carry originals together with photocopies. Photocopies should include a QR code, and laminated documents can sometimes be rejected.

  • Appointment: Applicants get only three appointments at the Passport Seva Kendra.

  • Time: Reach the passport office 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment.

  • Application Type: Minor and lost or damaged passport applications are not processed under Tatkaal.

  • Post Office: POPSKs will not accept applications for change of personal details, Non-ECR, Single Parent cases, Pending Court Case, and lost or damaged passport.

Passport Application Status Not Updated: Troubleshooting Guide

If your passport application status has not changed, there is usually no need to panic. Passport applications can remain at the same stage while document checks, police verification, approval, printing, or other processing is taking place. The official Passport Seva portal provides a Track Passport Application facility, and the status should be checked using the application’s File Number and Date of Birth. A. The government office submits Annexure-G or an NOC Certificate. So that the passport application process withour pre- police verification.

Q. Can an old passport be used after applying for reissue?

A. Yes, when you reissue your old passport, your must fillup previous passport details such as date of issue, date of expairy and file number.
