Passport Ecnr to Non-Ecnr

 

As per the Emigration Act (ECNR), 1983 Passport Office in India,  emigration check required (ECR) passport holder passport office in India, needs emigration clearance from the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs to apply for a visa to the following 18 countries. 

 

How can I convert my ECR to a Non-ECR passport?

Spouses of Government Employees

Applicant Madhyamik Pass or above i. Madhyamik or Higher Educational Pass Certificate
Applicant persons above 50 years

Minor children up to 18 years i) Birth Certificate
Normal Passport ECNR

i) Last year’s Income Tax Assessment Order and Original Tax Payment Receipt.

ii) Income Tax return statement for the last year that is stamped by the Income Tax Department, and a copy of the PAN card.

iii) Proof of payment of advance tax.

iv) For spouses: marriage certificate

v) For all dependent children: birth, Birth Certificate, or School Certificate

Central / State Government Pass Certificate issued by the Institute
Nurses Profession Nursing  Certificate
Professionals like MBBS, Ayurved Homeopathy, Journalists, Engineers, Chartered Accountants, Cost Accountants, Lecturers, Teachers, Scientists, Advocates, etc.

i) Professional Certificate.

ii) For spouses: marriage certificate

ii) For all dependent children: birth, Birth Certificate, or School Certificate

Abroad Person for More than three years

i) Passport copy—First two and Last page

ii) For spouses: marriage certificate

iii) For all dependent children: Birth Certificate or School Certificate

Holding a Permanent Visa in the UK, USA, and Australia.

i) Copy of Visas

iii) Permanent Resident Card

 

Apply for Changing from ECR to Non-ECR

  • You can apply for a fresh passport with Non-ECR status if you now meet the criteria (e.g., you have passed 10th standard).

  • You can also apply for a “re-issue” of your existing passport to change the ECR status. This is treated as a passport renewal/update.

  • Required Documents: You must submit proof of your Non-ECr eligibility:

    • For Education: Original and photocopy of 10th/12th/degree certificate.

    • For Income Tax Payee: ITR-V/Assessment Order of the last financial year.

    • For Government Servant: Service certificate from the department.

Photoes a.  Need 5 copies of photos with a white background.
b. Photo is only applicable for a minor child aged up to 5.
c. Photo size is size (4.5 x 3.5 cm), with the face up 80-85%.
d. Other appointment passport office to take a photo.
