Child Passport Ultimate Guide

 

A full guide to obtaining a passport for a child, covering documents, photos, and annexure. In India, minor passports are categorized by age under 18, as requirements and validity periods are different.

 

Complete Documents for Minor Passport

Here is the detailed list of documents needed for new born baby passport application:

Special Cases Additional Documents

During passport verification for a child, additional documents are required

Annexure -D: In this case, both father and mother are present in the passport office with their  IDs. 

Annexure -C: For four correct reasons (s)  

  1. Abroad Parents: 1st & last passport pages, visa, ticket/boarding pass, latest arrival & departure stamp page.
  2. Divorce: Divorce Court Order or Divorce Petition.
  3. Child Custody: The child custody order specifies whether parents have visitation rights or not.
  4. Missing Report: Submit the original missing report to the police station for the other parent  

 

Child Passport Fees

An infant’s passport and different types of fees. It depends on the applicant’s age and the number of passport pages. The fees are:

Infant Passport Photo Specifications

Photos are required when the baby age upto 5 years old. Photo Specifications are:

Size (4.5 X 3.5 cm)
Background Plain white
Face Coverage 80-85% of photo; head centered 
Resolution 630 x 810 pixels
Expression Neutral, mouth closed, eyes open
Head Coverings Only allowed for religious reasons

 

Minor Passport Annexure

There are three types of annexures needed for new born baby. The annexes are:

Annexure D – Declaration signed by both parents.
Annexure C – When one parent is unavailable (single parent, divorce, deceased)
Annexure F – Used for lost/damaged passports 

 

How to apply for a child’s passport

The application process is mostly the same for a newborn baby. You will generally need to complete the following steps:

Step 1: Fill Online Application Form: Complete the application on the official Passport Seva website.
Step 2: Sign Form: If the child is an infant or too young to sign, place their left thumb impression.
Step 3: Submit Application: Both parents usually need to be present to submit the application. 
Step 4: Pay Fee: After the fee payment, you get an appointment. Then you visit the passport office with an appointment, and all original documents.

 

Minor Passport Renewal

Renewing a child’s Indian passport is valid for 5 years, and after 15 years of age, passport validity is for 10 years.  Here is a step-by-step guide to help with the process:

Fill Out Renewal Form: Complete the form on the official website.
Submit Application: Submit your application through the online portal. 
Pay Fee: Pay the fee and take you to an appointment. 
Visit Passport Office: Go to Passport Seva Kendra with all original documents.

 

Child Passport Police Verification

Police Verification not Required

Renewal Minor’s Passport If the child is applying for a renewal/re-issue and the system shows a clear Police Verification.
Parent(s) Holding Valid Passport If either parent holds a valid passport and the spouse’s name is endorsed in that passport, the child does not need police verification.
Government Employee Parents If a parent is a government employee and submits a No Objection Certificate (NOC), verification may be waived.

Police Verification Required

Spouse’s Name Not Endorsed If the parent(s) have a valid passport, but the spouse’s name is not endorsed in it, then police verification will be required. 
Expired Over 3 Years If the child’s previous passport has expired for more than three years, a fresh police verification will be conducted.
First-Time Apply Passport For a first-time passport, police verification is required.
Adverse Police Report If the parent(s) have an adverse police verification report or a criminal background, the application will also be subject to verification.
10-Year Validity Passport Minors between 15 and 18 years of age who apply for a 10-year validity passport are eligible for a police verification.

A. There is no minimum age for baby passports. After the baby is born, you can apply for a passport with the hospital and birth certificate documents.
