Applying from the wrong  jurisdiction

Your “jurisdiction” is determined by your current residential address. You must apply at the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) that serves the district or zone where you live.

Wrong Jurisdiction” Means

The Passport Seva system divides India into regions, each managed by a Regional Passport Office (RPO). Each RPO has several PSKs under it. You are assigned to a specific PSK based on the PIN code of your current address.

You have applied from the wrong jurisdiction if

  • You currently live in Delhi, but you applied using an address and selected a PSK in Noida.

  • You moved to a new city, but used your old address to apply at your previous city’s PSK.

  • You selected a PSK that was more convenient for you, but it does not cover your residential PIN code.

Why Is This a Problem?

1. Police Verification Failure

2. Immediate Rejection/Hold

3. Major Delays

Step-by-Step Solution to Fix This

Step 1: Withdraw Your Current Application (If Active)

Step 2: Create a New Application with the Correct Address

Step 3: Prepare for Your New Appointment

Step 4: Explain the Situation at Your Appointment

 Avoid This Problem

  • Use your current, factual residential address for the application.

  • Let the system auto-select the PSK for you based on your PIN code.
  • If you move during the application process, it is better to withdraw and reapply with the new address.
