Passport Application is Under Review at RPO

 

After you apply for a passport in India, you go through several verification processes for every stage. During the verification, it shows “Passport Under Review.” If you see the following messages, we describe the full process for solving your problems. Also, you can check the status and what the next steps are.

 

Some reasons for this are shown in the application under review as follows:

1. Police verification is not completed at my respective police station.
2. Police verification is complete at my respective police station, but the police report is not sent to the regional office.
3. The application name is mismatched with the given initial proof.
4. The form address is mismatched with the given address proof.
5. The police station name is mismatched with the given form.
6. The birthplace is mismatched with given birth certificate proof.
7. The date of birth is mismatched with the given birth certificate proof.
8. Police verification is not completed by the applicant.
9. The father or mother’s names mismatch with the document of the form.
10. Don’t give old passport details in the submission
11. The old passport number is wrong in the submission. 
12. And also other wrong form details.
13. Old passport canceled by airport authority or airport officer.
14. And also other wrong application details.
15. The applicants hold more than one passport.

 

*** You get a message that your application is under review, you call the telephone number of the head office, and you go with documents.

 

How Long Showing the ‘Under Review’ Status?

There is no fixed time for showing under review in the status. Usually, it is showing time for the “Under Review” between 10 and 30 days, depending on:

  1. Workload of applications at the RPO
  2. Number of submissions in RPO
  3. Regional  office backlogs
  4. Holiday/weekend delays
  5. Manpower of the regional office.

 

How Can Check Status Under Review

After the application is under review, you can check your status by following the step

Step 1 First, you go to the government website
Step 2 Then, click “Track Application Status” on the home page
Step 3 Next, select the application type.
Step 4 After that, fill up the file number and date of birth
Step 5 Finally, click “Track Status,” and you can see your status.
Reminder: You get the file number in your received copy, and you get the status by sending an SMS to 9704100100 in the format ‘<< STATUS>><< SPACE>><< File Number>>

 

Your documents need to be resubmitted under review

In some issues under review for document submission, the RPO sends an email or SMS to upload additional documents, like the following:

  1. Proof of identity
  2. Proof of recent address
  3. Annexures (A, C, D, F, I, J, etc.)
  4. Affidavit for change of name, address, lost passport
  5. Letters of current employer
  6. Police re-verification or Police verification details

 

Avoid Delaying ‘Under Review’ Applications

To avoid delaying the application under review, you must check the following details.

  • Check all proper original documents before submission
  • Find all current address proofs.
  • Avoid errors in name, address, spelling, and PIN code
  • Use valid ID, address proof, date of birth proof, and educational proof.
  • Submit the correct annexures and affidavits in an application.
  • You must present police verification.

 

Does ‘Under Review’ Mean Application Rejection?

No. The application’s “Under Review” means your application has been rejected, or some documents or details are wrong. It means the office verifies your application process. In most cases, the RPO office, once the review is complete or processed, will then update your status. Update status is showing:

  1. Application Granted”
  2. Police report submitted
  3. “Printing Initiated”
  4. “Dispatched”

 

What Should You Do if Your Application is Under Review?

If your application is under review, you should do the following things:

1. Wait Genially for a Few Days

You must wait at least 10-15 working days. It may change status after 15 days.

2. Call or Visit the Regional Office (RPO)

If the status is not unchanged over 2 weeks, you may visit or call your regional office with an inquiry appointment, including original documents:

  • Appointment letter
  • Application receipt
  • File number
  • ID proof (Aadhaar, PAN)
  • Educational documents
  • Proof of urgency (if applicable)

3. A query raised via the Government Portal

  • Log in to your Government Seva Portal
  • Go to “Feedback/Grievance
  • Select “Grievance Type”—case ”under review/delay in processing.
  • Submit a query.

4. Contact or E-mail the Office Customer Care

The ministry has also made it clear that in order to remove a spouse’s name from a passport, a divorce decree or order is still mandatory.
