There is no fixed time for showing “passport under review” in passport status. Usually, it is showing time for the “Under Review” between 10 to 30 days, depending on:
- Workload of passport applications at the RPO
- Number of application submissions in RPO
- Regional office backlogs
- Holiday/weekend delays
- Manpower of regional passport office.
How Can Check Passport Status Under Review
After the application is under review, you can check your passport status by following the step

- Affidavit for change of name, address, lost passport
- Letters of current employer

Does ‘Under Review’ Mean Passport Application Rejection?
No. The application’s “Under Review” means your application has been rejected or some passport documents or details are wrong. It means the passport office verifies your passport application process. In most cases, the RPO office, once the review is complete or processed, will then update your passport status. Update status is showing:
- Application Granted”
- Police report submitted
- “Passport Printing Initiated”
- “Passport Dispatched”
What Should You Do if Your Application is Under Review?
If your passport application is under review, you should do the following things:
1. Wait Genially for a Few Days
You must wait at least 10-15 working days. It may change status after 15 days.
2. Call or Visit the Regional Passport Office (RPO)
If the status is not unchanged over 2 weeks, you may visit or call your Regional Passport Office with an inquiry appointment, including original documents:
- Appointment letter
- Application receipt
- File number
- ID proof (Aadhaar, PAN)
- Educational documents
- Proof of urgency (if applicable)
3. A query raised via the Passport Seva Portal
- Log in to your Passport Seva Portal
- Go to “Feedback/Grievance
- Select “Grievance Type” – Case under review/delay in processing
- Submit a query.
