Apply for Passports in West Bengal

Before the application, you can check the following details:

1. First, all the necessary documents and annexures are checked before starting the process.
2. Then, go to the PSK Online Portal to fill out your form.
3. Next, you check your documents as per the form fill-up.
4. After submitting your application online, you must pay fees as per the type of pages.
5. After that, you book an appointment at the respective Kendra as per your location. 
6. Thereafter, carry all original documents with self-attested photocopies.
7. Finally, after completing your process, you must check your status.

Questions and Answers

Q. How can I apply for a passports?

A. First, go to the government website. Then, create an account by signing up with your details. After that, log in using your ID and password. Fill out the application form carefully. Once the form is filled, submit it online. Then, pay the application fee. After payment, book an appointment at the nearest kendra.

Q. How much time in the Seva Kendra?

A. You need to spend about one hour at the center for document verification. It is important to arrive on time for your appointment. Also, keep in mind that the tiffin break is from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM, so try not to schedule your visit during that time.

Q. What is non-ECR?

A. ECR means emigration check required, and non-ECR means emigration check not required.

Q. Can we go directly to the office without an appointment in India?

A. No, you cannot go to the office without an appointment. But in case of an emergency or for a medical reason, you may be allowed to go without an appointment.

Q. Will the passport number change after reissue or renewal?

A. Yes, if you make any changes to your passports, like address, spouse's name, or education (qualification), or if you apply for renewal or reissue, your number will change. You will get a new passport with a new number.

Q. Is a phone allowed in the Seva Kendra?

A. Yes, the phone is allowed in Kendra. However, it is used only for emergency purposes for verification outside of the kendra.

Update for Marriage Certificate

The ministry has also made it clear that in order to remove a spouse’s name from a passport, a divorce decree or order is still mandatory. A source stated that to change the name of a spouse on the passport, applicants must provide a divorce decree, death certificate of the first spouse, a remarriage certificate, or a Joint Photo Declaration (Annexure J) signed by both parties.

Required for applicants born on or after October 1, 2023, residential addresses and parents’ names will no longer appear on passports.
